There’s an App for That

It is no secret that technology finds new ways every day to influence our personal lives, entertainment, work environment, and productivity. With Apple and Android devices all over the world, there are lots of apps which I found to be interesting and useful for what we do in our profession. Of course, by no means, this list is inclusive of all the apps currently available there — just a sample of few apps I experimented with at times. Also, some of these are available for both Apple and Android devices, where as others are only for one of the two. If you have other apps to add to this list, please send them my way ( so that we could include in the next E-Connector.

TurnCount — $29.99

TurnCount is the easiest and most intuitive way to count traffic today. Whether you’re a traffic engineer, a transportation planner or just someone wanting to know the number of vehicles and pedestrians entering an intersection, TurnCount is the app for you.

Las Vegas Traffic Cameras — $0.99

Access to traffic cameras in the Las Vegas area has never been easy! Simply click on the pinned location you would like to view the live traffic feed, and your device quickly becomes a portal to viewing live feeds from roads around our valley. The view is refreshed as quickly as your internet connection will allow for a very seamless way to view how congested the valley’s roadways are.

ArcGIS – Free

Use ArcGIS to discover a community of hosted maps from ArcGIS Online. ArcGIS is a great way to discover and use maps. Maps come to life in ArcGIS. Tap on the map or use your current location and discover information about what you see. You can query the map, search and find interesting information, measure distances and areas of interest and share maps with others.

ITE Books Now Available on the App Store – Varies

In response to the increasing requests from members for more digital offerings and leveraging the ever-growing popularity of Apple’s iPad, ITE launched ITE Books for iPad, on April 12. The application is available for free on the App Store.
