PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
President’s Message: December 2011

Tim White, P.E., PTOE
2011 Southern District ITE President

Southern District members,

I extend many thanks to our friends in Charlotte for the wonderful hospitality at our year-end board meeting at the beginning of December. We put on our walking shoes for a tour of downtown Charlotte and the new light rail system. Charlotte will be a great host for the 2013 meeting with all of the interesting projects that will be completed within the city by then.

The efforts of the Strategic Planning Committee this year were unveiled at this meeting. An impressive amount of work by many volunteers to enhance the District in 2011 was revealed at the meeting from results of membership surveys to e-newsletters to the newly updated SPAM manual. It continues to amaze me how much is accomplished by the Strategic Planning teams each year. I believe it starts with the development of a realistic strategic plan, which will need to be updated again next year.

Becky shared the results of two ad-hoc committees she led in 2011 – Budget Review Committee and District Representative Involvement Committee. I want to thank Becky, Martin, and the other esteemed members of the Budget Review Committee for finding many creative ways to develop a sustainable budget to help the Southern District operate in years to come. Becky also led a lively discussion on the 2012 budget, which was balanced for the first time in a few years.

This year has been a rewarding experience for me and I am thankful that the SDITE membership entrusted me with the opportunity to lead the District in 2011. It has been a pleasure working with the rest of executive board – they made my job easy. Thanks to Becky, Martin, Jim, Bob and Craig – you are amazing! Welcome to Rick and Kirsten in their new leadership roles on the board. You are in great hands under the leadership of Becky in 2012!

Best wishes for a safe and joyous holiday season and I look forward to seeing many of you in Lexington in April.

Tim
