PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:
President’s Message: October 2011

Tim White, P.E., PTOE
2011 Southern District ITE President

Southern District members,

I blinked and summer is behind us. Now we have fall to look forward to with cool temperatures, pumpkin spice, and many colors on the trees. Our next big event that we are preparing for is the winter board meeting in Charlotte during the first weekend in December. We are excited about what 2012 holds for the Southern District under the leadership of Becky White as we prepare ourselves for what Scott Walker has promised to be an exciting Annual Meeting in Lexington, Kentucky. Please be sure to get your abstracts submitted for that meeting by November 15.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the survey for the 2012 budgeting process. The board appreciates your input and feedback and we will use this information as we develop the budget for next year.

Jeff Moore, Chairman of the Workforce Development Committee, asked me to let you know that during the month of October, his committee will be surveying the Southern District membership as well as fellow transportation professionals who are not Southern District members. This survey is designed to determine the reasons why or why not our members decide to participate in or not participate in Southern District activities. The Workforce Development Committee is particularly interested in the answers provided by the public agency membership, but they encourage ALL of our Southern District membership to take a few minutes to participate in this survey. I also ask that you distribute this survey link to fellow transportation professionals who are not involved in Southern District activities. The information from this survey will be used in the discussion of future Southern District and section activities to increase the attractive value of those activities for existing and potential members. This is very valuable information and your input is important.

What makes the Southern District so special is the people. We are very proud that one of our people was recognized by ITE – congratulations to Hibbett Neal for receiving the Distinguished Service Award. Furthermore, we also want to congratulate Bob Stammer for completing his three‐year term representing the Southern District on the ITE Board and we want to thank him for his strong contributions to the Southern District Board.

I look forward to updating you on the results of our winter board meeting sometime in December.

Tim White
