Deadline Extended
The deadline for the SDITE 2023 Technical Paper and Special Project Competition has been extended to January 30, 2023.
The Southern District ITE Technical Knowledge Team and Member Services Committee announces the call Technical Paper and Special Project Competition. This competition awards are to be given in three categories:
- the Best Technical Paper submitted by an SDITE Member,
- the Best Young Member Technical Paper submitted by an SDITE Member 35 years of age or younger (must be 35 or younger as of January 1, 2023), and
- the Best Special Project
Technical papers should be at least 1,500 words in length and pertain to research or practical applications conducted in non-academic practice during the calendar year 2022. (Technical paper awards for students are being given through the Student Technical Paper competition, solicited separately through the Student Chapters).
For the Best Technical Paper and Best Young Member Technical Paper, the author of the winning paper will receive $350 cash prize and full registration scholarship toward the 2023 SDITE Annual Meeting in Savannah, GA. The runner-up award includes a $175 cash prize and half-registration scholarship to the Annual Meeting. Winning authors will be invited to present their papers at the 2023 Southern District ITE Annual Meeting. If the winners are unable to attend the meeting, they will only receive the cash prizes. No cash equivalent will
be given for the meeting registration scholarships.
The new category, Best Special Project, will highlight projects that have contributed to the advancement of transportation. Awards for best paper may be presented for the following categories: Complete Streets, Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO), Safety, Planning, and Traffic Engineering. Papers should be in PDF format and are limited to five pages. Winners will have the opportunity to present at the SDITE annual meeting and will be submitted to International ITE. Papers should include one or more of the following:
- Development of an innovative concept in Complete Streets, TSMO, safety, planning, or traffic engineering.
- Implementation of a challenging transportation program through perseverance in its development and promotion.
- Program or project having a significant effect on transportation.
- Multi-faceted transportation program or project, combining many innovative and/or well-applied concepts.
- Program or project promoting a major advancement in the efficiency and/or economy of transportation.
