ITE is launching a new initiative to aggressively advance the goals of the Vision Zero and Towards Zero Deaths movements. ITE’s initial efforts will focus on large and medium-size cities to support and complement the work of the Vision Zero Network. ITE is establishing a Vision Zero Task Force, comprised of a steering committee and a technical working group. Lead members of the steering committee (Richard Retting, Sam Schwartz Engineering) and technical working group (Andy Kaplan, Port Authority of NY/NJ) have been selected, and initial planning meetings for the Task Force have been completed.
A lead project manager also has been selected (Robert Wunderlich, TTI) for the Vision Zero Toolbox, a collection of safety resources being developed through a web-accessible portal as a product of the Technical Working Group. A formal announcement and request for feedback/resources will be posted to the ITE Community website in July 2016.
